The Creamer Color Chart© was developed to provide a rapid, economical, screening test to detect a functionally significant red-green color vision deficit. Two easily recognized symbols are presented under ordinary conditions. Difficulty recognizing the red star indicates the need for further testing. The orange circle is usually seen by all.. This visual disorder is the major cause of color recognition problems in children. About 5% of all male children and many females have some degree of color confusion. If undetected, the child may have problems in school, daily activities, and may lead to a poor choice of career later in life. While colorblindness has no effective treatment nor cure, early discovery helps parents and teachers prepare the child for living in a color oriented world. This Chart has proven to be of value to teachers, physicians, eye care professionals and others interested in the visual performance of children.

The screening test chart was validated by J. Chen, M.D., of the Department of Family Medicine., University of Maryland School of Medicine in a paper titled, " Rapid Detection of Red-Green Color Vision Deficit, The Creamer Test". The Chart was awarded third prize for scientific merit at a meeting of the Southern Medical Association. The Chart was also awarded a Certificate of Merit by the American Academy of Family Physicians Annual Scientific Assembly.

The Creamer Color Chart is an easy to use test, requiring no special conditions and can be used at the desk or as a wall chart. The instructions are simple, thus facilitating its use with persons regardless of their language ability.
