Anne Arundel County? The mission of the The One Hundred Club is to provide supplemental benefits to the families of law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty in Anne Arundel County. Within 24 hours of a crisis, The One Hundred Club of Anne Arundel County will help the family with a check to help pay for immediate, necessary expenses, and will assist in paying outstanding bills. How long has The One Hundred Club of Anne Arundel County been in existance? The organization was founded in April, 2000. We currently have 129 Individual memberships, 22 Family memberships, 22 Small Business memberships, 4 Corporate memberships, 17 Lifetime memberships, 1 Foundation membership, and 1 volunteer grant. Everyone in The One Hundred Club is a volunteer. How did The One Hundred Club get its name? In 1952 a Detroit businessman asked 100 of his friends and associates to help the family of a slain police officer. Since then 100 Clubs have developed in many cities across the country. Are there any other 100 Clubs? Yes. Over 116 such groups exist in the United States. What level of support has been provided in the past? Fortunately, nobody has been killed in the line of duty since the founding of The One Hundred Club of Anne Arundel; County, therefore we have not yet been called upon for assistance. What are some future goals? As assets of The One Hundred Club of Anne Arundel County grow, we hope to be in a position to help pay home mortgages, assist in children's educational expenses, and other "debts" that the family may have. We will put the family in touch with unbiased professionals after the grieving period has passed. Doesn't the police or fire agency give adequate benefits to employees who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty? Benefits vary from agency to agency. When a tragedy strikes, the family may need funds immediately for emergency expenses. Death benefits are often delayed. Workers compensation may not completely replace the full salary of a public safety official. How is money raised? Assets grow through increased membership, donations and special events. Is my membership or contribution tax deductible? Yes. The One Hundred Club is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit group, Tax Identification Number 52-2255715. All contributions are tax deductible. Can benefits from The One Hundred Club be considered as insurance? Absolutely not. The decision as to what benefits will be paid and if so, in what amount rests entirely with the discretion of The Board of Directors of The One Hundred Club. How can I help?
